Motorola XOOM MZ600, MZ601, MZ604 Tablets; Specification, Price & Comparison

Motorola is becoming quite rising star in the Gadgets after the release of Google Android OS. It’s really great to the coming back of the inventor of Cell phones. After launching the world’s most powerful Android Smartphones and , Motorola is really trying to make a stand in the Tablet market too! And guess what, it has all the latest features and the Android OS, v3.0 (Honeycomb), which is upgradable to v3.1. This has created a way for cold war between tablets in the market. Anyway, I am not going to have that war captured on this post instead, I am going to compare the versions of the Motorola XOOM tablets in the market. The versions I am going to review here is the Motorola MZ600, MZ601 and MZ604. Let’s get started. Read ahead;

Motorola- XOOM MZ601-MZ600-MZ604So, All the three XOOM Tablet versions from the Motorola has the same specification expect they differ only in the Networks they support. I don’t know why Motorola did this. May be because to support the carriers or to make the customers choose the model according to the budget or need. Let’s have a look at the three models.

1. Motorola XOOM MZ600Motorola- XOOM MZ601-MZ600-MZ604 (2)

Motorola XOOM MZ600 is for Verizon which supports only the CDMA 2G and 3G(CDMA2000 1xEV-DO). The device don’t have voice communication capabilities. And this device will not work on any GSM network worldwide. It also has Wi-Fi support.

2. Motorola XOOM MZ601

Motorola XOOM MZ601 is Tablet with no support for GSM voice communication, SMS, and MMS. This will not work on any of the CDMA or GSM network worldwide. This can also be called the Wi-Fi model as it supports only Wi-Fi.

3. Motorola XOOM MZ604

Motorola XOOM MZ604 is also called XOOM MZ603( may be Motorola made a mistake in the naming order or it got some last minute carrier problem and that created that MZ603 to be a empty slot or guess what, expect some other carrier on that name soon). Glad that this is a GSM device and it don’t have any voice communication facilities. This model also support Wi-Fi.

That’s all about the three models. Now, let’s check what are the common features they have. Starting from the external session;

Motorola XOOM : Appearance

The Motorola XOOM has a 800 x 1280 pixels, 10.1 inch TFT capacitive touch Screen. The display supports multi touch input and has a accelerometer for auto UI rotation. For additional touch sensitivity Motorola XOOM has Gyroscope and barometer sensors. The device is only available in Black colour. The device weights only 730g and is only 12.9 mm thick, which makes the device quite handy.

Motorola XOOM has no physical buttons. But, it do have some connecting ports on the bottom and camera lock button near the camera. Comparing to the iPad 2 the Motorola XOOM is small and narrow, and is more thicker on the sides.

Motorola XOOM : Software and Hardware

Motorola XOOM is running on Tablet friendly Android OS, v3.0 (Honeycomb) and the happy news is that this can be upgradable to Android v3.1. The device is running in the 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 AP20H Dual Core processor which makes almost all the tasks easier to do and multitasking at its best and also has a 1GB RAM. The overclocking of processor can be done but, i don’t recommend it as the processor already has a power to do almost all tasks.

Motorola XOOM is available in versions which comes in 16/32/64 GB internal memory and this can be further expanded upto 32GB using an external microSD card. The battery, the device has a standard Li-Ion (25 Wh) battery which offers 80h of music playback, Upto 10 hr of video playback and also a great talktime and standby time.

Motorola XOOM : Camera and Other Features

Motorola XOOM has a 5 MP autofocus camera with dual-LED flash support. The camera can shot 720p videos @30fps. There is also a front facing 2MP camera.

Other features include, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, WLAN dual band, and also Motorola XOOM can act as a Wi-Fi Hotspot or also supports tethering, Adobe Flash player 10.1 support. Bluetooth v2.1, GPS, A-GPS, HD video playback and support for almost all music formats.

Motorola XOOM : Price, Competitors and Final Words

The tablets are becoming common these days. In one way we can say that it is replacing the netbook trend that come up lately. As there are lot of tablets available in the market confusion arise for sure. But, i must say iPad 2 almost lost its position except for the brand name it is giving. So, either you can go for Motorola XOOM or Samsung Galaxy Tab series. As both have almost same spects choice is yours. Price, As i said the Motorola XOOM is available in three versions and each have different price tag.

In US, Motorola XOOM price for Wi-Fi version and Wi-Fi + Verizon 3G w/plan is available for $599. Wi-Fi + Verizon w/o plan is $799. You can buy from here.
